The New England Patriots will trim their roster from 90 to 53 players following three preseason games and a summer worth of training camp practices.

The NFL deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The Patriots have many questions to answer: Does Bailey Zappe make the roster after the Jacoby Brissett injury? (Update: No.) Who makes the roster as a sixth receiver? How does New England's deep cornerback room shake out?

4:08 p.m. ET: The Patriots on Tuesday announced they released the following 16 players: safety Joshuah Bledsoe, offensive Kellen Diesch, offensive lineman Liam Fornadel, linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, running back Kevin Harris, running back Terrell Jennings, linebacker Kobe Jones, wide receiver Matt Landers, guard Atonio Mafi, defensive end Jotham Russell, kicker Chad Ryland, safety A.J. Thomas, cornerback Shaun Wade, wide receiver David Wallis, tight end Mitchell Wilcox and quarterback Bailey Zappe.

12:41 p.m. ET: The Patriots are waiving defensive end Jotham Russell, according to the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed. Kyed reported the Patriots plan to add Russell to the practice squad as their international pathway program player.

12:35 p.m. ET: The Patriots plan to waive wide receiver David Wallis, according to the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed.

Wilcox was competing for New England's third tight end spot behind Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper.

9:27 a.m. ET (Tuesday): Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne will start the season on the physically unable to perform list, as first reported Tuesday morning by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Bourne will be eligible to return after four games.

4:10 p.m. ET (Monday): The Patriots on Monday afternoon announced the following 14 roster cuts: long snapper Tucker Addington, wide receiver Kawaan Baker, defensive end William Bradley-King, defensive tackle Josiah Bronson, linebacker Steele Chambers, running back Deshaun Fenwick, cornerback Azizi Hearn, offensive tackle Zuri Henry, defensive end Christian McCarroll, tight end La’Michael Pettway, defensive tackle Sam Roberts, center Charles Turner, cornerback Mikey Victor and tight end Jacob Warren.

2:45 p.m. ET: The Patriots are releasing running back Deshaun Fenwick, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

1:53 p.m. ET: The Patriots have waived defensive end William-Bradley King, according to the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed.

1:22 p.m. ET: New England is releasing line backer Steele Chambers, according to MassLive's Mark Daniels.
