Stephen Nedoroscik became an overnight sensation at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, and the spotlight was on the Worcester, Mass. native again Saturday.
Nedoroscik secured the Olympic bronze medal in the men's pommel horse final. The 25-year-old finished with a 15.300 behind gold medalist Rhys McClenaghan (15.533) and silver medalist Nariman Kurbanov (15.433). It was the first time an American won an Olympic medal in pommel horse since Alexander Naddour in 2016.
Saturday's performance came after Nedoroscik wowed audiences with his pommel horse routine in the men's team all-around that secured the bronze medal for Team USA. Nedoroscik drew comparisons to Clark Kent with his focus and determination when he took his glasses off, and he's been dubbed the "pommel horse guy," which earned him acclaim on social media.
Nedoroscik went fifth in the pommel horse final and earned a higher score than defending gold medalist Max Whitlock for third. The American gymnast had to wait out the next three competitors who did not earn a higher score than Nedoroscik before he soaked in his individual Olympic accomplishment.
