What Eliot Wolf Has Seen From Patriots QB Drake Maye

Drake Maye made some progress in his NFL development for the New England Patriots in an improved effort in Thursday's pregame matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

New England's executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf made an investment in Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After two preseason games, Wolf shared his latest read on the rookie quarterback.

"Yeah, it was good to see him get in the other night," Wolf told reporters at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, per team-provided video. "It was really good to see how calm and collected he was. He got headbutted by Nolan Smith and made a nice play on that one, but he's steadily improved. He's put his head down and worked. He's a great teammate, and we're excited to see where his development can go."

Wolf still wants to see more growth and development from Maye to push the needle, though Thursday did mark a step forward for the Patriots rookie.

"Drake's very conscientious," Wolf added. "He takes all the coaching points. He's trying to do everything perfect. It was really nice to see him the other night go out there and just play ball rather than think about those things."

With Jerod Mayo turning to a noncommittal attitude surrounding the starting quarterback job, Maye and Jacoby Brissett have work ahead of them in New England's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.
