UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- There's no doubt the Indiana Fever gained droves of new fans this season because of a certain someone.
The Caitlin Clark effect is indeed real. The Fever averaged a tick over 17,000 fans per game this season after drawing 4,067 fans in home contests in 2023, according to Sportico.
Some of those fans made the trip to Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday where the No. 6 Fever matched up against the third-seeded Connecticut Sun in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. And the Sun made sure to have some fun at the expense of those in the stands supporting the Fever and Clark by trolling their new-found fandom.
The Sun had a "Bandwagon Cam" on the in-arena jumbotron prior to the game and showed people in Clark jerseys with the caption: "Loyal Fever fan since 2024." You can check it out here in a video from SB Nation's Noa Dalzell:

Clark, who was named the unanimous AP WNBA Rookie of the Year on Sunday, and the Fever will look to have the last laugh by taking a series lead in the best-of-three playoff series. It's Indiana's first time in the playoffs since 2016 while the Sun, who have had a tremendous amount of success in recent years, are looking to get their hands on a title for the first time in franchise history.
Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in her debut WNBA season and helped orchestrate a terrific in-season turnaround for the Fever after they started the campaign 1-8.
