DK Metcalf's first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season was a thing of beauty Sunday afternoon.
The ensuing celebration at Gillette Stadium? Not so much.
After the Patriots drew first blood in the Week 2 matchup, the Seahawks leveled the score when Metcalf and quarterback Geno Smith connected for a 56-yard touchdown. The star wide receiver showed some flair when he high-stepped to pay dirt, but he lost style points when he tried to incorporate New England's End Zone Militia into his celebration. Quite frankly, it was tough to wrap your head around what Metcalf was going for.
The two-time Pro Bowl selection offered an explanation after Seattle's 23-20 overtime win, but he did acknowledge his showmanship wasn't great.

"You know the picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware River? That's what I was trying to impersonate," Metcalf told reporters, per a video shared by ESPN's Brady Henderson. "It was terrible. Everybody thought I was trying to take the guy's musket. Nah."
Metcalf owning up to a weak celebration wasn't the only noteworthy admission from a Seahawks wide receiver Sunday. Tyler Lockett apparently told Jonathan Jones that the referees botched the defensive pass interference penalty on the Patriots cornerback in overtime.
Lockett, Metcalf and company improved to 2-0 with their road win in New England, and the Seahawks will try to maintain their unblemished record Sunday when they host the Tua Tagovailoa-less Miami Dolphins.
