The Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa find themselves in an unfortunately familiar position.
Tagovailoa suffered yet another concussion, adding injury to insult in Miami's ugly 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on "Thursday Night Football." The quarterback's concussion history is concerning, to say the least, and while the Dolphins wait to see how this latest setback plays out, they need to start preparing for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.
According to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, the job belongs to Skylar Thompson -- at least for now.
"I think the best way to articulate where we're at, is the team an the organization are very confident in Skylar," McDaniel told reporters in a Friday morning conference call. "There's a reason he was our backup quarterback."

However, it doesn't sound like Tagovailoa will return anytime soon, and the Dolphins are in the market for another QB with just Thompson and Tim Boyle on the roster right now.
"That being said, we will bring in someone; we're just evaluating the pros and cons for the different situations and going through the possibilities to do the best thing for our team," McDaniel added. "But as it stands today, I'm expecting that Skylar is the next man up."
One obvious veteran option off the street is Ryan Tannehill. The veteran signal-caller spent the first seven years of his career in Miami after the Dolphins took him with the No. 8 pick in the 2012 draft. Tannehill's play was uneven throughout his Miami tenure, but he flourished in Tennessee after the Dolphins traded him to the Titans in March of 2019.
The Dolphins could also set their sights on one of two ex-Patriots quarterbacks, who could provide some hefty trade value to their current teams if Miami decides to go that direction. Or, speaking of ex-New England quarterbacks, there is always that Tom Brady guy, too.
