Jerod Mayo and the New England Patriots got off to a surprising start to the 2024 campaign after a 16-10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Patriots, who were 7.5-point underdogs entering the contest and had a projected win total of over/under 4.5 entering the season, stunned oddsmakers, media members, and fans alike.

Speaking to reporters after Sunday's win at Paycor Stadium, Mayo said the Patriots have not listened to the outside noise. But he did offer a message to the Foxboro Faithful, who supported them.

"For the fans, hopefully they see what we're trying to build," Mayo said, per a team-provided video. "I talk about, 'It takes time.' And we're still not where we want to be, but we're headed in the right direction."
