NFL Rumors: How Patriots Will Handle Christian Barmore Contract

Christian Barmore will not need to worry about his finances as he works his way back to the New England Patriots.

Barmore, who was hospitalized with blood clots in late July, will receive his full 2024 salary despite being on the non-football injury list, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. NFL teams are not required to pay players on NFI.

New England's decision to place Barmore on NFI rather than injured reserve keeps the door open for a potential return.

"That was just leaving open the possibility," Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters after New England's 53-man roster cutdown. "Once again, look, we want Barmore to be healthy, and when he's healthy, he'll be out there."

Barmore will miss at least the first four weeks of the season, per NFL rules.

The 2021 second-round pick was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. Barmore agreed to a four-year extension with the Patriots prior to his hospitalization. That four-year, $83 million agreement goes into effect for the 2025 campaign.
