The Patriots will debut a minor tweak to their uniforms in Sunday's season-opening matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.

New England made the long-awaited addition of some regalia to its kit this season, with new head coach Jerod Mayo announcing his captains would wear patches that have become the standard around the NFL.

David Andrews, Jabrill Peppers, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Cardona, Ja'Whaun Bentley and Deatrich Wise Jr. were selected by their peers to captain the ship, and will debut with the "C" on their jerseys Sunday.

Mayo was a team captain during his playing career and explained how he recognizes the value of displaying the honor for deserving players.

"I was a captain seven out of eight years, which once again, whatever happens inside the building, that's always the most important thing," Mayo said last week. "... It's a badge of honor, and I think when guys do the right thing, they should be recognized for those things. It's something as small as having the captain's patch, I think it's important for those guys."

Andrews, as the longest-tenured captain on the team, will have a gold patch.

New England's rookies will also have a special look for the season-opening matchup, as all players making their debut will rock a "Prem1ere 2024" patch for their first game. Ja'Lynn Polk and Layden Robinson are expected to see considerable action, while Javon Baker will have to wait as he is inactive.
