San Francisco police identified a 17-year-old boy as the suspect in the shooting of 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
The rookie was on his way to a fan signing event in downtown San Francisco on Saturday. He was part of a robbery attempt over a Rolex watch, and Pearsall sustained a bullet wound to his chest and was in serious but stable condition. The 23-year-old was seen in a video walking to the ambulance.
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott told reporters multiple shots were fired during the struggle between the suspect and Pearsall which caused both parties to be shot by the suspect's gun. Police recovered the gun and arrested the suspect while he was trying to run away, and he was identified as a resident of Tracy, Calif. His name has not been released and the district attorney's office said he will be charged in juvenile court.
Scott noted the incident was an active investigation and the suspect acted alone but did not target Pearsall specifically because he was a 49ers player.

"This kind of violence is simply unacceptable in our city," Scott told reporters, per Pro Football Talk.
The 49ers released a statement asking everyone to respect Pearsall's privacy while offering their thoughts and prayers for their 2024 first-round pick.
