The New York Mets broke out the brooms and swept the Red Sox on Wednesday night with Boston suffering a 8-3 loss at Citi Field.
The Red Sox, who have lost five games in a row, now sit at 70-70. It's the first time they've been at the .500 mark since June 14. The Mets improved their record to 76-64.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
The Boston Red Sox had their chances to break out of their slump and get at least one win in the Big Apple. But Boston's offense continued to fail the team.

The Red Sox put the go-ahead run on base while trailing 4-3 in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings only to see those potential rallies conclude in the same excruciating fashion with Boston hitting into three inning-ending double plays. And the Red Sox mostly had the hitters they would want in those situations at the plate, too. Rafael Devers and Triston Casas were responsible for two of those frames ending while Romy González came narrowly close to beating out his double-play ball.
Boston gave itself another opportunity in the top of the eighth when it put runners on the corners with two outs. But Masataka Yoshida couldn't come through in that moment, either, as the Red Sox left six runners on base and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position on the night.
The offensive struggles were even more frustrating since Boston fought back from a 4-0 deficit in the first inning to get within a run for most of the night. But Boston's offense isn't getting the job done at the moment as it has scored just eight runs during the losing streak.
The Red Sox ran out of chances when Kenley Jansen and Rich Hill combined to walk in three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

STARS OF THE GAME
-- Jesse Winker delivered the most consequential hit of the night and it came in the first inning. Winker hit a grand slam off Tanner Houck to stake the Mets to an early advantage.
-- Jarren Duran tried to do his part at the top of the Red Sox order. Duran went 2-for-4 with an RBI ground-rule double in top of the third inning.
-- Francisco Lindor provided his dependable defense in the middle infield for the Mets and finished 2-for-5 at the plate in his quest for the National League MVP.
