WORCESTER, Mass. -- Kristian Campbell may just be the top-performing prospect in the entire organization for the Boston Red Sox in 2024.

That's why eyebrows raised on Wednesday night when the infielder left the field shaking out his arm and shoulder after running out a ground ball to first base. The Red Sox prospect will not play in Worcester on Thursday night as he works through the tweak.

"Just running, it was weird," Worcester manager Chad Tracy said at Polar Park on Thursday. "Nothing on the swing. He was running down to first. He was about halfway. As he was pumping back, he felt something in between where his shoulder blade and lat is. Felt like something grab a little bit."

Tracy added: "I don't think it's anything serious, but he is still a little sore today. Obviously with him, we're not gonna push him out there until we clear it up. I think it's minor. It was strange. Not one that I've seen before. Stuff like that happens sometimes. Freak little thing."

Tracy considers Campbell "day to day" with the lat injury. The Red Sox prospect is at his third level of the minor leagues this season after spending time with High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland. Since joining Worcester, Campbell is slashing .286/.412/.486 with a .898 OPS in 19 games for the Red Sox affiliate.
