Upset Patriots Wide Receiver Showcases ‘Problem’ With Offense

DeMario Douglas was supposed to be a playmaker for the New England Patriots this season. He hasn't been anything close to that, though.

The second-year wide receiver has just two receptions for 12 yards through two games and he wasn't even targeted in Sunday's overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Douglas certainly was bent out of shape after not seeing a ball come his way.

Ountae Campbell and Laura Stickells discussed the lack of production from all of New England's wideouts on NESN's "Boston Has Entered The Chat" podcast and Campbell believes it's a bad sign that much was expected out of Douglas in the first place.

"When people are on Twitter talking about, 'Oh, Pop Douglas, who is a sixth-round, 210 pick in the NFL draft is upset and not taking media availability because he didn't get any targets,' that's a problem," Campbell said. "(The Patriots) are relying on a sixth-rounder who's about 5-10 to make plays right now at the beginning of the season, for a guy who is a second-year player in the NFL. That's a problem."

Many thought Douglas was primed for a breakout season after the shifty slot receiver tallied 49 receptions for 561 yards during his rookie campaign with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe as his quarterbacks. Douglas certainly have even got off the starting block yet, but there is still a ton of time for him to turn it around starting Thursday night when the Patriots travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets.
