The Jets made a surprising move this week, putting all eyes on Aaron Rodgers’ weekly appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show.”

New York fired Robert Saleh days after its Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Rumors swirled over why the Jets fired their head coach in-season for the first time since 1976. Saleh reportedly was attempting changes to the offense, and Woody Johnson might have been peeved about an international loss. But Rodgers was speculated to have a role in the decision.

As one might imagine, Rodgers didn’t take too kindly to his name being involved in rumors and speculation.

“As far as the ridiculous allegations out there, I’m not gonna spend more than one sentence in response to it and that is I resent any of those accusations because they are patently false,” Rodgers said on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday. “It’s interesting the amount of power people think that I have, which I don’t. I love Robert, and it was just one of those days yesterday.”

McAfee followed up by saying the media would clip out his comment and then try to spin it as part of “journalistic standards.”

Rodgers had high praise for Saleh and admitted the business of football was tough on everyone. The Jets star confirmed he had a phone call with Johnson but noted Saleh was not part of their conversation.

Saleh released a graceful statement Wednesday morning in response to his firing despite reportedly being escorted out of the Jets building by security.

While Rodgers ripped the speculation about his role in his former head coach’s dismissal, he’ll also have to try to find a way to get the 2-3 Jets back on track.
