The Boston Bruins are in unfamiliar territory early this season, going 3-4-1 in their first eight games.
Over the last two seasons, the Bruins started off “running and gunning.” They opened the 2023-24 campaign with six straight wins and 10 wins in their first 11 games the season before.
The players are not happy with the results, especially after dropping a 5-2 decision to the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
The Bruins took the first steps to correct their issues with an energetic practice on Friday.
“I thought we had a really good practice today,” Bruins captain Brad Marchand told reporters at Warrior Ice Arena, per team-provided audio. “Our biggest thing right now is our details, and we really kind of focused on that today. … Really good tempo to practice. Guys were focused and sharp, so it was a good day.”

One good practice is not nearly good enough for the high standards the Bruins instill in themselves, though, and Marchand reiterated what Boston needs to do going forward.
“It’s one day. We’ve got to build on that and be better each day, and we need that consistency now,” Marchand explained. “When things aren’t going the way you want them to, the only way to get out of it is to work, and you need to do it together as a group.”
Marchand added: “When you go through adversity, you want to go through it as a group and come out of it as a group. It is great to be out there and working through it as a team. It’s how you bond. When you go through tough times, that’s when the character comes out of your group. … But, again, it’s about doing it every day, not just one day. It’s something to build on.”
The Bruins will look to bring energy, consistency and details to their matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Boston hosts its division rival at TD Garden with puck drop slated for 7 p.m. ET.
