The Bruins added goalie depth Wednesday.

General manager Don Sweeney announced that Boston acquired goaltender Jiri Patera off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.

Patera appeared in 25 games with the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL last season. He commanded a 2.99 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. The 25-year-old played in 85 career AHL games with a 2.92 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. Patera has also appeared in eight career NHL games with the Vegas Golden Knights.

The waiver claim was made amid the Bruins' contract negotiations with Jeremy Swayman. The team hopes a deal will be done, but head coach Jim Montgomery named Joonas Koripsalo the starter for the season opener next Tuesday.

Boston's acquisition of Patera likely was a depth signing with Brandon Bussi getting more work in the final two preseason games as well as depth for Providence.

The Bruins travel to Quebec City to play the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
