BOSTON — In just his third start of the season Joonas Korpisalo did everything he could to earn the Boston Bruins their second straight win.

Unfortunately for Korpisalo, the Bruins’ offense couldn’t find the back of the Flyers’ net and Boston was shut out by Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old netminder made a spectacular glove save on Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway’s wrist shot in the opening frame to keep the game scoreless.

“It’s been a while since I played last time, so I just tried to go out there and enjoy the game, out everything I got there,” Korpisalo said after the loss. “The guys played great in front of me throughout the game. I mean, throughout the game, how many shots I had? 15, 16, so I can’t ask for more.”

Along with flashing the leather, Korpisalo also made a lateral move across the Bruins’ crease to make a toe save on Bobby Brink. Both saves were made within the first 7:26 of the game.

“I was pretty late on that one so I had to stretch there,” Korpisalo said. “But yeah, just trying to battle it out, find a way to make a save.”

Korpisalo made only one mistake in the middle frame when Tyson Foerster beat him five-hole for the game’s first goal. The second Flyers’ goal was an empty netter with 24 seconds remaining in regulation. The Bruins had pulled Koprisalo in favor of the extra attacker in an effort to get the game tied and force overtime.

“He gave us an opportunity to win,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said. “He didn’t face very many shots, but he faced some high-quality shots. I can think of at least three great saves that gave us the opportunity before it went 1-0.”
