The Bruins on Thursday unveiled the club’s commemorative uniform kit ahead of their centennial game on Dec. 1.
Boston unveiled the uniform in a video featuring Brad Marchand skating in Matthews Arena, the original home of the Bruins back when it was called Boston Arena. The historic jersey will be worn by the Black and Gold when they take on the Montreal Canadiens.
“The Centennial Game will be a special moment for our organization and more importantly, our fans, so the jersey design had to be fit for the occasion,” Boston Bruins president Cam Neely said in a press release. “There are so many elements for both fans and the players to enjoy, but my favorite part of the jersey is on the bottom hemline; When our players pull this jersey over their heads, they will see our core values: tradition, grit, passion and heart. These are the values that we have embodied for a century and will carry with us for the next generation, which starts Dec. 1.”
The date of the game commemorates the 100th of the first-ever game at Boston Arena between the Bruins and Canadiens when Boston beat the Montreal Maroons, 2-1.
There are multiple special meanings behind the centennial game jersey that combines elements of the past with a vision for the future. The anniversary crest combines the vintage Spoked B with a contemporary varsity “B” that’s been featured on Causeway Street since 2007. The sweater features a new, color-inverted version of the centennial patch to symbolize the turn of the century. The jersey design draws inspiration from the 1980s, and the collar displays the score from the 1924 game between Boston and Montreal.
