The Celtics will raise the banner to commemorate the franchise’s 18th NBA championship Tuesday, and fans loved what the team posted Thursday.
Boston’s championship parade was one for the ages as the 2023-24 team stamped its names into history. Head coach Joe Mazzulla had his side ready to avoid a championship hangover, but the pregame ceremony for the season opener will look back and celebrate another championship for the Celtics.
The team posted a hype video on social media that reiterated the qualities of last season’s team.
“I hold a lifetime of memories here. Each banner etched into my very core,” the narrator of the video said. “But this one was different. The step-backs, posters. Hustle, heart, whatever it takes. This wasn’t just a banner. It was a statement. It’s almost time to welcome it home.”
The video included clips of the 1960s team, the Larry Bird-era teams and the 2008 championship team. It then cut to last season’s NBA Finals which included classic moments like Derrick White’s teeth getting chipped and Payton Pritchard’s halfcourt heave. There also was a tease of Banner 18, too.

Tuesday should be a memorable night for the Celtics and their fans before they take on the challenge of becoming the first team since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors to repeat as NBA champions.
