The Jets reportedly made a shocking move Tuesday.

New York informed head coach Robert Saleh that he would be fired, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Jets owner Woody Johnson was the one to inform the 45-year-old of the decision, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.

Saleh’s tenure came to a relatively abrupt end, as he was relieved of his duties after a 2-3 start to the season that was capped off with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Saleh finished 20-36 in parts of four seasons and had one more year remaining on his contract after this season, according to Schefter.

Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will become the interim head coach, according to Peter Schrager of FOX Sports. New York also is expected to retain offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Saleh’s relationship with Aaron Rodgers will be among the primary things looked into following the decision, as the two were involved in multiple awkward interactions — one of which was broadcast during the club’s matchup with the New England Patriots in Week 3. Rodgers explained the whole thing by becoming defensive and fumbling over his own words, which only made it look worse.
