New York might part away with a notable wide receiver
The Jets’ reported blockbuster trade made Tuesday might not be the only one they make this month.
New York began the day by reportedly agreeing to terms with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire star wide receiver Davante Adams. The reported deal came after a tough loss against the Buffalo Bills at Metlife Stadium that dropped the Jets to 2-4 It also came after the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and assigned play-calling duties to Todd Downing.
The shakeup in the receiver room might just be getting started. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, receiver Mike Williams could be on his way out of Florham Park.
“Some high-level league sources are currently wondering whether the trade for Davante Adams will put #Jets WR Mike Williams on the market and what the price would be to encourage a deal,” NFL insider Josina Anderson posted on X.
Adams was one of Rodgers’ favorite targets with the Green Bay Packers, and he’ll immediately become one of his top looks with the Jets. With Adams in the mix, Williams’ workload could take an even bigger hit. The veteran wide receiver caught 10 passes for 145 yards in six games, and Rodgers took a shot at him for the game-losing interception Monday night.
Williams signed a one-year, $10 million contract with New York last season. The 30-year-old came off ACL surgery and didn’t look like his explosive self to start the season. He could benefit from a change of scenery. The Los Angeles Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs are potential fits. In New York, though, he’s an obvious candidate to lose his role competing for targets with budding star Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, who has chemistry with Rodgers from their time in Green Bay.
The Jets could also make more moves as they’ve reportedly given edge rusher Haason Reddick permission to seek a trade.
