The negotiations between Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins are over.

Boston on Sunday morning announced a new contract for Swayman, who received an eight-year deal with an average annual value of $8.25 million. The pact put Swayman in a tie for the NHL's fifth-highest-paid goalie in terms of AAV, trailing only Carey Price, Sergei Bobrovsky, Andre Vasilevskiy and Connor Hellebuyck.

It was a deserved payday for Swayman, who ranked fifth in the league in save percentage last season and finished seventh in Vezina Trophy voting. But the 25-year-old saved his best play for the postseason, where he arguably was Boston's best player in its first-round series triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays and helped the B's go six games against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

Swayman's contract was announced less than 24 hours after Boston wrapped up its preseason slate. Head coach Jim Montgomery previously announced that newcomer Joonas Korpisalo will start in net for the Bruins' regular-season opener Tuesday night, and that plan likely will stay in place even with Swayman's contract situation resolved. The fifth-year pro has not played in a game setting since mid-May.

Korpisalo's status as Boston's No. 1 goaltender will only be temporary, though. The Bruins are all in on Swayman in between the pipes, and they made that abundantly clear with an expensive deal for the 2017 fourth-round pick.
