Patriots Activate Offseason Signing, Elevate Two From Practice Squad

New England appears on track to lose another starter

The Patriots will get their first look at an offseason signing when they face the Houston Texans on Sunday.

New England on Saturday activated Sione Takitaki to the 53-man roster. The former Cleveland Browns linebacker, who signed a two-year contract last offseason, started the season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and should help a hampered defense.

The Patriots also elevated long-snapper Tucker Addington and running back Terrell Jennings.

Addington’s elevation hinted that Joe Cardona could miss Week 6 after he was a late add to the injury report Friday. It would mark another injury/absence of a Patriots captain this season with Deatrich Wise Jr. the only one unaffected through five games.

Rhamondre Stevenson was ruled out for this Sunday due to a foot injury he suffered last week. Head coach Jerod Mayo hinted that another running back could be elevated from the practice squad. Antonio Gibson and JaMycal Hasty are expected to gain a larger workload with Stevenson absent.

Kickoff for Sunday’s Patriots-Texans matchup at Gillette Stadium is scheduled at 1 p.m. ET.
