Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked Monday about the group of weapons he was entrusting to help develop Drake Maye, and the list he gave out didn’t exactly assure confidence.
“I think when I look at the film, it’s (Kayshon) Boutte, it’s Pop (DeMario Douglas), it’s (Kendrick Bourne), and we need the rest of those guys to step up and make plays,” Mayo said.
George Balekji and Travis Thomas discussed the group of weapons on NESN’s “Foxboro Rush” podcast on Wednesday, with the latter sharing just how discouraged he was with the trio.
“Drake Maye’s top three options are ‘No! Stop! Run!'” Thomas said. “He’s got nothing. I mean, Pop Douglas, god bless him. The man is all heart, but he doesn’t have the stature to be a No. 1 guy… Three best options? ‘Stop! No! Run!’ Those are your best options.”
It’s safe to say he isn’t impressed.

Maye built an early rapport with Douglas and clearly connected well with Boutte on the deep touchdown to end the half last week against the Houston Texans, but there’s no doubt New England needs a bit more.
