Christian Barmore got Patriots fans in a frenzy Thursday night, and there might have been substance to his social media activity.

The New England defensive star posted an hourglass emoji on X, and it had fans wondering if the 25-year-old was nearing a return. The Patriots reportedly were “bracing for the possibility” of the defensive tackle, who started the season on the reserve/non-football injury list due to blood clots.

Head coach Jerod Mayo added fuel to the speculation when had an update on Barmore.

“He’s progressing,” Mayo told reporters, per a team-provided video. “He still has some checkpoints or hurdles to get over, but he’s progressing well.”

The new-found optimism this week does seem to have merit to it, though it likely will take time for Barmore to get back into football shape if he does get cleared to return. But he’d be a huge talent addition for a defensive unit lacking in it due to injuries.
