FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will not return against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Maye was ruled out with a concussion, per the Patriots.
“He’ll be out for the remainder of this game,” Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo told the CBS broadcast at halftime. “Look, just like I told the guys at the beginning of this game, it’s that next-man-up mentality. Don’t matter what position you play. So, need Jacoby (Brissett) to take us to the promised land.”
Maye left for the locker room midway through the second quarter after he went into the blue medical tent. He appeared to suffer the injury after he was hit in the back of the head by Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood. Maye picked up 18 yards on a scramble and was hit by Sherwood as he went into his slide.
Sherwood was not penalized for the hit.

Brissett replaced Maye behind center. The veteran quarterback started the first five games of the season before he was benched in favor of Maye.
