The New England Patriots went all in on Drake Maye as the starter last week, but he played without one of his top offensive skill players.

Rhamondre Stevenson did not play in Week 6’s loss to the Houston Texans due to a foot injury. The running back suffered the injury in Week 5’s loss to the Miami Dolphins and had not practiced in over two weeks. Despite not practicing Wednesday and Thursday, head coach Jerod Mayo seemed optimistic about Stevenson’s status.

“Well see today, but he is getting closer,” Mayo told reporters in England on Friday, per team-provided video. “So probably will be a game-time decision.

Mayo stressed an emphasis on the run game, and while it was against a tough defense, Antonio Gibson and JaMycal Hasty didn’t get the job done. The game script played a part in that, but New England probably doesn’t want Maye to lead the team in rushing even if he made history doing so.

There might be more clarity on Stevenson’s status for Sunday based on the practice and injury report Friday. Stay tuned to NESN.com for updates on the Patriots star running back.
