Dillon Lawson earned himself a promotion with the Red Sox after only one season with the organization.
Boston on Sunday morning announced Lawson was named the club’s new assistant hitting coach. The 39-year-old spent the 2024 campaign serving as the Red Sox’s minor league hitting coordinator.
Lawson spent five seasons with the Yankees organization before joining Boston. He was New York’s minor league hitting coordinator from 2019 through 2021 before working as the Bronx Bombers’ hitting coach in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Yankees led all of baseball in home runs in Lawson’s first campaign as hitting coach.
The Louisville native also has experience with the Houston Astros organization and four collegiate programs, including the University of Missouri.
Lawson will replace former assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz on Alex Cora’s staff. Ortiz reportedly was one of six coaches who the Red Sox cut ties with after their underwhelming 2024 season.
