Most figured Jacoby Brissett’s second stint with the Patriots was only going to last one season.
But in wake of a major recent event, one could argue the tenure should be even shorter.
Brissett lost his job in New England on Tuesday when the Patriots transitioned to Drake Maye at starting quarterback. Brissett now will serve as QB2 in Foxboro, Mass., but that job might be better off for Joe Milton. At a minimum, New England should listen to any and all trade offers for Brissett before the Nov. 5 deadline.
It remains to be seen if Brissett will generate any interest, but these teams should make a call to Eliot Wolf.

Cleveland Browns
Deshaun Watson has become a complete liability to a Browns team that has a good deal of talent on both sides of the ball. Cleveland could definitely use an experienced leader behind center who won’t regularly put the team in bad situations. That’s not exactly the MO of Jameis Winston, the Browns’ current backup QB. Brissett, who started 11 games for Cleveland in 2022, might not have a Joe Flacco-like spark in Northeast, Ohio, but he could inspire a positive turnaround.

Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins have already taken two cracks at replacing Tua Tagovailoa, and Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley both looked dreadful. No, Brissett wouldn’t have the same kind of dynamic connection with Tyreek Hill that Tagovailoa has. But the experienced signal-caller could definitely manage an offense that has a ton of playmakers. Not to mention, South Beach is another city where Brissett previously made a pit stop in his career.
Arizona Cardinals
This simply would be a security move for the Cardinals, who feature a very exciting offense with Kyler Murray running the show. Murray’s electrifying playing style and size, however, leave him more open to injury than the typical quarterback. The dual threat currently is backed up by Clayton Tune, who has one NFL start to his name. Brissett would be a far more promising fallback plan in the event Murray went down.
Los Angeles Chargers
Star quarterback Justin Herbert is dealing with an ankle injury that clearly is hampering his play. Herbert probably would need to be dragged off the field to miss time, but the Bolts would not be in a good spot if that comes to pass. Taylor Heinicke is far too reckless and Easton Stick is … Easton Stick. Brissett absolutely could manage LA’s run-first offense and his toughness surely would be admired by head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are in a similar spot as the Cardinals — they’re screwed if their starter goes down. Kyle Trask is the current understudy in Tampa Bay, and he’s yet to throw a pass in his young NFL career. It’s hard to imagine Trask would be able to keep the Bucs in playoff relevancy if Baker Mayfield was injured, but Brissett probably would be able to keep the ship afloat.
