The Chiefs acquired Uche on Monday
Joshua Uche turned heads this offseason when he turned down more years and more money on the free agent market to return to the New England Patriots on a one-year deal.
Uche told reporters in the spring how much the Patriots are ingrained in his career and made the decision one he felt more than comfortable with.
“There were some options on the table, but in my heart, I felt I was destined to be a Patriot,” Uche told reporters. “And despite what was offered, I just felt that this was my calling to be a Patriot. I felt like it’s what I was destined to do and I felt like this is where I want to be. I don’t want to be anywhere else. You got to do what you got to do, follow your heart.”
Uche added: “It was interesting, I had a lot of people calling me crazy. A lot of people focusing on the financial parts of the decision, but I feel like the team gave me an opportunity, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I can’t envision myself playing for another team. However that shakes out, I just know at the end of the day, the ball was in my court and this is the dream.”
Uche will now have to envision himself elsewhere after the Patriots traded the pass-rusher to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2026. Uche tallied two sacks with New England this season and now joins a contender with consistent chances to get to the quarterback.
Uche now jumps from a 2-6 Patriots to a 7-0 Chiefs team with a real shot to win a third consecutive Super Bowl.
