Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is still searching for his first win in New England after taking over the starting role from veteran Jacoby Brissett.
The Jacksonville Jaguars had no problem disposing of the Patriots, defeating them 32-16 in London on Sunday.
Trevor Lawrence’s rookie campaign wasn’t one to brag about. The Jaguars went 3-14 and Lawrence threw 17 interceptions that season. However, he had a breakout season in 2022 when he led Jacksonville to its first division title and playoff win since 2017.
The 25-year-old shared the advice he gave Maye as the two quarterbacks met on the field following the Week 7 matchup.
“I just told him after the game, he’s a great player, and just to keep his head down, keep working,” Lawerence told reporters, per team-provided transcript. “Just try to learn something every week. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’ve got to keep your confidence.”

Lawrence added: “He’s the leader of that team, that organization when he’s on the field playing. Everybody looks to the quarterback, and he’s a high-pick, high-drafted guy. Just keep his confidence. I think that’s the thing.”
The two quarterbacks didn’t have a long conversation after the game, but Lawrence shared more of his thoughts on the Patriots rookie with reporters.
“There’s going to be times you’re going to be tested. Sometimes it’s hard,” Lawrence said. “I’ve been there. It’s hard to keep your confidence when there’s things going on around you or the team is in a tougher spot, and maybe you’re not playing your best as a player. You have to keep going to work every day and keep your head up and lead your teammates. That’s the biggest thing.”
Maye will get a chance to earn his first win when the Patriots host the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium next Sunday.
