'I know everything will take care of itself'
Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman is one of a handful of NHL players who will be featured in an upcoming docuseries on Amazon Prime. It’s safe to assume B’s fans will be quite interested to hear what he has to say.
Swayman, according to ESPN.com, stars in Episode 3 of “FACEOFF: Inside the NHL” that comes out Friday. The footage is dated — it was recorded before Swayman’s training camp holdout, capturing action from the 2023-24 season — but there’s still some insight from the Bruins goalie on his mindset regarding his future.
“I mean, I don’t want it to end. (This) could be the last time I wear a Bruins jersey,” Swayman said after Boston’s season ended last spring, according to ESPN.com. “I know I’m going to do everything in my power to be a Bruin for a long time. As a kid growing up in Alaska, this was in my wildest (expletive) dreams. I never want it to end. I’m just so grateful that the sun’s going to rise tomorrow and there’s another opportunity to get better.
“Whatever I can do to help this team win. I know everything else will take care of itself.”
Whether Swayman feels differently now is obviously the biggest question to answer.
The Bruins have stated on multiple occasions they too hope to get a deal done with the restricted free agent, and the two sides will presumably work toward getting something done in the coming days and weeks. Boston will start the season without Swayman, though, as head coach Jim Montgomery acknowledged in a preseason news conference earlier in the week.
Bruins president Cam Neely took a more direct tone regarding negotiations. Swayman’s camp quickly responded with a volley of its own. The back-and-forth signaled the work still left to be done, but Bruins ownership sounded hopeful common ground could be reached.
The docuseries, which also features Bruins winger David Pastrnak, drops on Friday, Oct. 4.
