Bruins Defenseman Exits Maple Leafs Tilt Early With Injury

The Boston Bruins finished their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night with only five defensemen.

Andrew Peeke logged 4:49 minutes of ice time across six shifts before taking a big hit into the boards from Toronto forward Max Pacioretty in the first period.

Pacioretty appeared to have left his skates and jumped into the hit that knocked Peeke into the boards. Peeke was slow to get up after his head hit the boards but skated off under his own power to the locker room.

The Maple Leafs forward was initially assessed a five-minute major, but the call was overturned after the refs reviewed it and determined it to be a clean hit.

The Bruins announced between the first and second periods that Peeke would not return with an upper-body injury.

Peeke has two assists in 12 games with the Bruins to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Boston acquired Peeke at the trade deadline last season. He notched two assists in 15 contests with 44 hits and 47 blocked shots.
