Travis Hunter might have secured the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, and the New England Patriots must be salivating at the idea of him in Foxboro, Mass.
Colorado earned a dominant win over Utah at Folsom Field. Shedeur Sanders led the Buffaloes offense, but it was Hunter who stole the show. The 21-year-old caught a ridiculous ball over four defenders on a fourth-and-8. He intercepted a pass, and the junior wide receiver/cornerback negated a negative play and ran a reverse for a touchdown.
Hunter should win the Heisman Trophy and could be a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Patriots might have an opportunity to draft the human cheat code, and they should.
You might be thinking that offensive line should be a priority, and you’re not wrong. But Hunter might be a once-in-a-generation talent, and it would be foolish of Eliot Wolf and his staff to pass up on him. New England needs a true No. 1 wide receiver, and Hunter fits that bill.
“What about Tee Higgins,” you might be asking. What about him? The Patriots theoretically could sign Higgins to a massive contract and draft Hunter to supercharge Drake Maye’s development.

This also isn’t a zero-sum game. The Patriots could use the rest of the draft to either accumulate more picks or focus on the trenches. The history of the NFL draft shows that teams need to aim for ceiling and not hope for a good floor. Hunter would be a home-run pick that could jumpstart the rebuild and bring the hype of Patriots football back.
