New England Patriots fans might keep a close eye on the Jaguars-Vikings matchup this Sunday.
Trevor Lawrence dealt with a shoulder injury to start the week and was limited in practice. Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson confirmed to reporters Friday that it was “trending” toward Lawrence sitting out against Minnesota. That means Mac Jones would start in Week 10.
“I got a lot of confidence,” Pederson told reporters of Jones, per a team-provided video. “He’s somebody who prepares extremely hard, extremely well. He’s a smart kid. You go back to the preseason stuff and what he did then as far as the preparation and how he played. He’s gonna be fine. He’ll be excited. Obviously, a home game, home crowd, home fans, his people, so to speak. But a lot of confidence in him.”
Pederson added that the team would cater to “Mac-type plays.” He highlighted how Jones was a starter before, so he does not expect a drastic transition if the former Patriots signal-caller would start.
Jones would face a tough matchup against Brian Flores’ defense, especially after Jacksonville traded Cam Robinson to Minnesota before the trade deadline. The QB’s spot appearance in Week 3 inspired laughs, and it could be a roller coaster ride for the NFL to enjoy if Jones starts this Sunday.
