Concern will grow with each game Jaylen Brown misses as the Boston Celtics star deals with a left hip flexor injury that has bothered him since training camp.
Brown is set to be sidelined for a third straight game with the Celtics ruling him out for Wednesday’s showdown with the Golden State Warriors at TD Garden.
While alarms bells might be going off for Celtics fans regarding Brown, head coach Joe Mazzulla isn’t showing any signs of being worried.
“Not concerned,” Mazzulla said Tuesday on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak and Bertrand” as transcribed by MassLive’s Souichi Terada. “He’s day-to-day. It’s a strain. He’s working really hard in treatment every day and just kind of working to get back at it. Not concerned and I don’t think he is either.”
Brown recently told The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn he had an MRI on the ailing area during training camp and was going to get a second MRI soon.

Brown felt his explosion and burst impacted by the injury along with him being unable to get his legs underneath him. That’s come into play with Brown’s struggles from 3-point range. He missed 20 of his last 21 attempts from beyond the arc.
Aside from Brown being less efficient with his shot making — he’s also shooting 40% from the field through six games which is down from 49.9% last season — the three-time All-Star looked like his usual self. He is averaging 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists, which would all be career marks.
The Celtics haven’t missed Brown with Boston easily dispatching the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks without the reigning NBA Finals MVP.
The Celtics have the roster to be patient with Brown and get him back to 100% before he returns. But there’s no question they’d prefer him back sooner rather than later to put to rest any concerns over Brown’s health.
