Juan Soto reportedly was intrigued by what the Red Sox were selling.

Boston reportedly had an extensive meeting with Soto last week. While the superstar free agent reportedly did not field contract offers in the first phase of his free agency, Soto and the Red Sox appear to have gained a solid understanding of each other’s interests and priorities.

Soto, according to several reports, has made his desire to win clear to multiple clubs, including the Red Sox. Boston has a plan in place for sustained success, and it’s one that the four-time All-Star reportedly appreciates.

“Their meeting with Soto went well, as they sought to convince him that the special talent in their system will allow them to spend on free agents and trade acquisitions over the next several years,” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden wrote in a column published Thursday. “Soto was impressed with that aspect of their presentation, according to a league source briefed on the meeting.”

It remains to be seen if an extremely encouraging youth movement and bright future will be enough to sway Soto to Boston. The Red Sox also will have to make a compelling financial offer to the 26-year-old, but recent comments from team president and CEO Sam Kennedy indicated the club is prepared to do so.

All told, Boston appears to be a serious player in the Soto sweepstakes.
