With how hectic the first half of the Jets’ season was, it was only fitting that New York made some noise before the NFL trade deadline.

A little less than three hours before Tuesday’s deadline, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Jets traded Mike Williams to the Steelers in exchange for a 2025 fifth pick. Williams, who signed a one-year deal with New York back in March, is set to join a Pittsburgh team that entered Week 10 in control of the AF’C’s third seed.

Williams wasn’t bound for consistent playing time and targets the rest of the way with the Jets, even with fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard dealing with a potentially long-term injury. The 2017 seventh-overall pick’s value in the Meadowlands diminished when the Jets swung a blockbuster trade and reunited Davante Adams with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

That said, Williams hadn’t provided much to Gang Green even before Adams arrived. He only recorded a combined 12 catches for 166 yards with no touchdowns over nine games with the Jets. The 30-year-old should be more of a focus for the Steelers, who had been looking for a new wide receiver to complement George Pickens.

Should Pittsburgh waste no time ingratiating Williams, he will make his Steelers debut Sunday when Mike Tomlin’s side visits Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders for a battle of two-loss teams.
