The NHL handed out punishments after Friday’s Bruins-Penguins matchup.
Nikita Zadorov and Evgeni Malkin got into it in front of Boston’s bench in the B’s 2-1 loss to Pittsburgh. Zadorov received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and Malkin received a slashing penalty on Mason Lohrei.
The NHL on Saturday fined Zadorov and Malkin $5,000 for their respective penalties, the maximum allowed under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
Zadorov briefly commented on the spat postgame when he noted that he does have a history with Malkin. However, the 29-year-old did not want to comment further beyond that. Malkin did not speak postgame.
The Bruins will want to move on after Friday’s loss and look to rebound Sunday when they play the Montreal Canadiens in the Centennial Game. Boston won’t play the Penguins again until March 1.
