Drake Maye took the game into his own hands for the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The rookie quarterback led New England in rushing (again) with 85 yards on nine carries in a 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Maye also sent the game to overtime with a dramatic, acrobatic throw to find Rhamondre Stevenson as time expired for a game-tying touchdown.
Maye’s impressive performance drew quite a comparison from one of his defensive teammates.
“Man, that looked like Josh Allen 2.0,” Davon Godchaux told reporters in Nashville, per MassLive’s Mark Daniels. “He looked amazing — especially when he runs the ball. I didn’t even know the kid had burners like that. When he’s running the ball, he looks amazing. I’m excited to play with him and watch him the next couple of years.”
Allen joined the Buffalo Bills as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He changed the team’s dyna,ic as a talented, big-framed quarterback who’s made five trips to the postseason and an appearance in the 2020 AFC Championship Game.

That’s a great goal for Maye to chase and, for the Patriots, hopefully surpass as New England works through its rebuild. At this point, one thing feels cemented: the Patriots have their next true franchise quarterback.
