Christian Gonzalez being involved in trade speculation ahead of Tuesday’s deadline might have caught some New England Patriots fans by surprise.

The second-year cornerback, however, wasn’t concerned.

“I knew I was going to be here,” Gonzalez told reporters at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, per MassLive’s Chris Mason. “I’m good.”

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported the Patriots received calls on Gonzalez. It was never reported New England was interested in dealing the 2023 first-round pick.

“I’m here, so that’s all that matters,” Gonzalez said. “That’s above me. I’m here and that’s that.”

It would have made zero sense for the Patriots to trade Gonzalez, and felt extremely far-fetched. Gonzalez is one of New England’s cornerstone building blocks, arguably behind only rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Gonzalez is a cost-controlled piece who plays a premium position and is turning into one of the league’s best cornerbacks. No way he was being shipped out of New England.
