Football teams tend to take on the identity of their head coach, and the New England Patriots are no exception.

The Patriots are an inconsistent football team led by an inconsistent football coach, according to NESN.com’s Sean McGuire.

“I think his identity right now is that he’s inconsistent,” McGuire said during NESN’s “Foxboro Rush” podcast following New England’s 28-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

“I think the Patriots, as a football team, they are very inconsistent. They can’t string games together.”

New England hasn’t won consecutive games all season, failing to do so at Gillette Stadium on Sunday one week after the team’s victory over the Chicago Bears.

Mayo’s frequent backtracking in his public comments and his in-game decisions have proven inconsistent, as well. An example of the latter was on display against the Rams as Mayo opted against a two-point conversion attempt after he went for two in the same situation earlier this season.

“It’s very inconsistent, everything about it,” McGuire said.
