The Red Sox are trying to build something great and sustainable for the future, and they want Juan Soto to be a part of it.
Boston was one of the first teams last week to meet with Soto, one of the most coveted MLB free agents in recent memory. While it’s unclear where the Red Sox currently are positioned in the Soto sweepstakes, all indications point to the storied club taking its pursuit of the star outfielder very seriously.
More Juan Soto
A few details about the Soto-Red Sox meeting leaked last week, including what the four-time All-Star reportedly asked team brass. In a column published Thursday, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden shared some more intel about the face-to-face.
“Their meeting with Soto went well, as they sought to convince him that the special talent in their system will allow them to spend on free agents and trade acquisitions over the next several years,” Bowden wrote.
The future certainly appears to be bright in Boston, where a few young players had breakout seasons in 2024. The Red Sox also have three of the top 10 prospects in all of baseball, which as Bowden noted, opens a wide range of opportunities for Craig Breslow and company.

To be clear, seemingly no reporter has labeled Boston as the favorite to sign Soto. But it sure sounds like the Red Sox are going to make it as tough as they can for the 26-year-old to latch on elsewhere.
