FOXBORO, Mass. — The boo birds came out midway through the third quarter at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
New England Patriots fans in attendance for the Week 11 contest against the Los Angeles Rams did not agree with Jerod Mayo’s fourth-down decision with 7:02 left in the third quarter. Facing a fourth-and-goal from the Los Angeles 2-yard line, Mayo and his staff took New England’s offense off the field and opted for a chip shot field goal while trailing 21-10.
Patriots radio broadcaster Scott Zolak agreed with those in attendance and believed New England should have gone for it on fourth down rather than kick.
“What do you have to lose?” Zolak said on the 98.5 The Sports Hub’s broadcast.
Zolak added: “You shouldn’t have thrown it on first down. Run Rhamondre (Stevenson) four times. He looks good today.”

New England had first-and-10 from the LA 5-yard line and quarterback Drake Maye threw an incompletion to Hunter Henry. Stevenson gained a hard-earned three yards on second down before he was stopped for no gain on third-and-goal from the 2-yard line.
Patriots kicker Joey Slye converted the 25-yard field goal to cut New England’s deficit to one possession, 21-13, with seven minutes remaining.
The Rams, however, covered 72 yards on seven offensive plays and extended their lead to 28-13 less than four minutes later.
“You happy you went for three?” Zolak said.

The Patriots have been criticized for not being aggressive when situations present themselves. That storyline will continue given their most recent decision.
