Under-The-Radar Patriots Assistant Labeled ‘Coach To Watch’ In Future

Jerod Mayo praised New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt as the coach who deserves the most credit for developing rookie Drake Maye.

Patriots quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney wouldn’t be far down that list, however. And McCartney’s work with the third overall pick could help his NFL coaching career skyrocket down the road.

So much so that NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero name-dropped McCartney as one of the league’s coaches to watch “in future years.”

McCartney was hired by the Patriots last offseason after he spent four seasons on the Cleveland Browns staff. He served as an offensive assistant and tight ends coach under head coach Kevin Stefanki and Van Pelt, who brought McCartney to Foxboro, Mass.

Chances are McCartney still has to add to his resume before he receives an external (or internal) promotion. But in the meantime, McCartney’s position on the Patriots coaching staff reportedly is safe for the 2025.
