Drake Maye isn’t used to getting embarrassed like the New England Patriots were against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
And the rookie quarterback clearly doesn’t want to make a habit of it.
“Anytime you’re losing — like I’ve always said I hate losing more than I really like to win,” Maye told reporters after New England’s 34-15 loss at Hard Rock Stadium, per a team-provided video. “Losing sucks.”

It prompted Maye to share an on-field message to Patriots teammates in hopes they will learn from it.
“I told some of the guys on the sideline, ‘Remember this feeling,'” Maye said. “‘Remember this feeling of really getting our butts whopped today.'”

Maye (22-for-37, 222 yards, touchdown, interception) was not his best in South Beach. He turned the ball over twice including a game-sealing interception with New England scratching and clawing. But he also had a highlight-reel play to tight end Austin Hooper, who scored a 38-yard touchdown after Maye bought himself time outside the pocket and unleashed a deep ball on the run.
It was another contest in which Maye showed why the Patriots are so high on him as the franchise signal-caller.
“I think it’s only up from here,” Maye said. “We got a bright future and bright players in there that are going to make some plays for the Patriots.”
