A rocket arm isn’t the only tool Patriots quarterback Drake Maye uses to torment opposing defenses.

Maye also is a major threat with his legs. After running for a combined 102 yards over his first three starts for New England, the rookie signal-caller thrashed the Tennessee Titans for 95 yards on the ground last Sunday. Maye’s rushing output was 80 yards more than the three active Patriots running backs in Week 9 combined.

Drew Bledsoe knew the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 draft was super athletic, but the former New England quarterback didn’t know Maye was that much of a dual threat.

“I’ve been able to watch a little, and I really like what I’m seeing,” Bledsoe told MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “He seems to have good composure about him. I didn’t know he ran so well, which is a great addition.”

Much like the rest of his game, Maye’s rushing attack needs to be polished. The 22-year-old can’t afford to be too reckless on the ground, as the risk of injury goes up when he doesn’t incorporate a level of caution.

Should Maye harness those aspects of his game, it will make him even more of a matchup nightmare.
