Bill Belichick is officially heading back to school.
The University of North Carolina football program officially named Belichick as its next football coach Wednesday evening. The eight-time Super Bowl champion has his next coaching job after winning six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots in 24 seasons.
“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill,” Belichick said in the statement. “I grew up around college football with my dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill.”
Belichick does have a previous connection to North Carolina as his father, Steve, was an assistant football coach for the Tar Heels from 1953-55.
Belichick joins the ACC as North Carolina finishes its 2024 season on Dec. 28 in Boston at Fenway Park for the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against the UConn Huskies.
