The Boston Red Sox answered the bell Wednesday after several talents already flew off the board at the Winter Meetings.

Boston made the daring trade of four notable prospects and acquired starter Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. That gives the Red Sox the jump start they needed on impact roster improvements this winter. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow sounds committed to adding even more.

“We came here a few days ago thinking we needed to improve our rotation,” Breslow told reporters in Dallas. “If we exclusively look down one path, we would be closed off from other options. I think that’s still the case. There are still really good players, really good pitchers left on the free agent market, and there are still conversations we are having with teams as trade targets.

Breslow added the Red Sox are still in the market for another starting pitcher, a catcher, a right-handed bat and a reliever, per The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham.

Boston clearly got a spark midway through the Winter Meetings with added ambition to be uncomfortable in moves to improve the roster for the Red Sox.
