Bailey Zappe is headed back to the open market.
The Cleveland Browns announced Monday that they waived the third-year quarterback to make room for defensive tackle Jowon Briggs. Zappe served as Cleveland’s emergency third quarterback in each of the last four games but has not played in a game this season.
Zappe landed in Cleveland on Oct. 22 after the Browns signed the 25-year-old off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. Zappe spent nearly two months in Kansas City after he was waived by the New England Patriots.
Zappe was a member of the Patriots for two seasons and played 14 games (eight starts) during his up-and-down tenure. He spent last summer in New England but failed to carve out a role behind quarterbacks Drake Maye, Jacoby Brissett and Joe Milton III.
